TAYLOR SWIFT MIDNIGHTS-INSPIRED OUTFITS

October 21. Midnight sharp.

If you’re a Taylor Swift fan, you know what this means. If you’re not, basically, Taylor Swift’s 10th studio album Midnights is out on October 21. It tells the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout her life. As of writing this blog post, no lead single has been released and I have no idea what the album will sound like. Regardless, I already pre-ordered the vinyl, so… it better sound good!

Every time Taylor Swift releases a new album, she has a whole new aesthetic for that era. For ex., reputation era was all snakes, dark lipstick and dark clothing. Lover era was rainbows and butterflies. folklore and evermore were cottagecore vibes. The Midnights era looks like it’s all ’70s and vintage, which is my favourite!

Honestly, I’m loving all the old-timey aesthetics of this era and I’m absolutely loving all of her outfits this era. I decided to take some of my favourite outfits during this era (so far) and try to recreate them using pieces from sustainable brands. HOW TO STYLE A CROPPED DENIM JACKET

Oops, I did it again. I bought a brand-new denim jacket. Did I need it? Probably not. Was it 70% off? Hell yeah. You know, I recently decided to push sustainable/ethical fashion on this blog. And what did I do? I bought something brand-new.

But I feel like it’s important to show you the process of adjusting from buying fast fashion to slow fashion. For me at least, the transition isn’t that smooth, especially since it’s hard for me to shop at thrift stores now with the whole pandemic. But, this topic is for another post. Right now, let’s talk about how to style a cropped denim jacket.

MOM JEANS

Who knew mom’s old clothes would be so cool?

According to the fashion industry, stealing your mom’s pair of ’80s or ’90s jeans are the “in” thing to do right now. Or, if your mom has gotten rid of her “mom jeans,” going to the thrift store to buy someone else’s mom’s old jeans is also a thing you can do. So I did just that. I asked my mom for her old ’80s jeans. It’s a little loose on the waist, but overall, it gives that desired “vintage” mom jeans look.

I find it pretty hilarious that mom jeans have been on trend for years because I’ve seen photos of my mom in her old jeans and … they’re not the prettiest sight. (Cue SNL‘s “Mom Jeans” skit). But of course everything in fashion comes down to styling. If you style your mom jeans in a more modern or vintage-inspired look, you can avoid appearing frumpy.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR A DAY AT PARIS LAS VEGAS

Las Vegas. The ultimate destination for fun, games and relaxing with friends. Once there, there’s so many options for places to eat, shows to see and casinos to peruse.

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it on my blog before, but I have this weird obsession with France, particularly Paris. I travelled there seven years ago and I wasn’t obsessed with it as I am now. I just love everything about it, from the architecture, the food, and of course the fashion!

There’s books and blog posts focused on achieving that French girl fashion look, that sense of “je n’ai se quoi.” From what I’ve read and seen, French style is more simple and classic. They focus on quality, classic pieces that will never go out of style. They wear mostly neutral colors and very little make-up. Now that’s my style! I think I identify with Parisian style so much because it’s exactly how I dress. My closet is filled with neutrals, I always go for classic clothing and keep everything simple and minimal.

Bohemian style has been dominating the fashion world for the past couple of years, all thanks to the popularity of music festivals such as Coachella. This season (spring/summer), one of the biggest trends is ’70s fashion, and with that comes all things bohemian.

I personally love bohemian fashion – I like the lace and the flowiness of the clothes. I also like the earthy aspect of boho fashion. I’m actually thinking of having a bohemian theme for my wedding (if I even get married, that is…)

DISCOVERING YOUR PERSONAL STYLE

Discovering your personal style can be a difficult process. It involves having a deep understanding of your sense of self (that’s my Psych major talking right there..), a great confidence in your own skin and knowing what works and doesn’t work for your body type.

Many people say that fashion is an extension of yourself, an outlet through which you can express your creativity and personality. I agree. We are drawn to specific garments, styles and colours because we are attracted to, and feel comfortable, in them. We choose them because they fit our tastes, likes and visual aesthetic.

After following fashion blogs for years, I quickly noticed how they had their own unique style. Then I started thinking about myself and how I didn’t think I had a personal style.

KATARZYNA TUSK STYLE

One of my favourite fashion bloggers out there is Katarzyna Tusk. Her fashion and lifestyle blog, makelifeeasier, is filled with beautiful pictures of her outfits, recipes, travel adventures, and make-up tips. Her blog is one of the only blogs that I religiously visit everyday, making sure I’m updated on any new outfits she has posted.

Her style is the epitome of “classically casual”. It is every bit timeless, simple, casual, and classy–all of which I aspire my personal style to become. Although her blog is written in Polish, I can get a sense that she lives through the philosophy of simplicity and classics being the most important components in creating an outfit. A statement necklace, sunglasses, hats, watches, and handbags are the only accessories she incorporates into her outfits. Blazers, trench coats, peacoats, skinny pants and trousers, sweaters, pumps, and flats are some of the classic pieces she relies on.
