WE ARE THE ANTS DISCUSSION

WE ARE THE ANTS DISCUSSION

It’s only April, and I think I have already found my new favourite book of the year. And one of my favourites of all time. Sure, there are only about eight more months left until the end of the year, but I haven’t read a book in a long time that spoke to me and that I related to as much as We Are the Ants.

The whole time I was reading the book, I kept nodding at everything the narrator said. I remember thinking I wanted to write a book dealing with the same issues/themes, but then I realized I’d never be able to write a book as well-done and beautifully written as this one. We Are the Ants perfectly captures everything I want to say. It’s basically my thoughts and feeling about the world written in a book.

CHECKING OUT CARAVAL’S CIRCUSY CLOSET

CHECKING OUT CARAVAL’S CIRCUSY CLOSET

It’s my second Booklook post! I decided maybe I’d pair these with reviews of the books I’m highlighting. I don’t know yet. We’ll see. I don’t want this blog to be solely books. I still want to add in some fashion. But I’m indecisive. So I guess it’ll be a surprise.

Anyways, if you haven’t read my previous Booklook post, this series is basically me drawing fashion and style inspirations from the books I’ve read. I’ll usually take the inspiration from the setting, the character description (sometimes their outfits are described) or both.

ALL THE BOOKS I READ IN JANUARY

ALL THE BOOKS I READ IN JANUARY

Happy belated January wrap-up! Yup, I’m very behind. Blame either work (for making me tired) or me (for just being a lazy bum). Either one is correct.

Anyways, I read (and listened) to a grand total of … five books. It’s not the biggest amount, but I’m very proud of it. I call myself a lazy reader, which means I want to read all the books but I lack the motivation to start and actually read them. So I end up reading one book over months.

But with the reading goals I set for myself, I’m way more motivated to pick up a book. Which is great for my reading (but not so great for my wallet because once I start reading all the unread books on my shelves, then I, of course, need to buy more!! It’s the only logical conclusion).

READING GOALS IN 2018

READING GOALS IN 2018

(Note: Wow, this is going up super late! Oh wells…)

As you may already know, I love books. My dream is to have my own personal library at my house. But the crazy thing is that I don’t really read a lot of books within a year. Sometimes I just don’t feel like reading anything, or I just don’t have enough time to read. Also, if I read too much, my eyes get strained and I get migraines, so that’s no fun. But this year, I decided to set reading goals and set an amount of books I want to read.

MISS PEREGRINE’S CLOSET FOR PECULIAR FASHION

MISS PEREGRINE’S CLOSET FOR PECULIAR FASHION

I love fashion (as if you didn’t already know), but I also love books. Perhaps just as much, if not more. I love reading and getting lost in a book and being invested in the characters’ lives, journey and adventure.

So I decided to start this new series on my blog called Booklook where I draw inspiration for outfits from the books I’ve read. I want to do reviews sometime soon, too.

Anyways, I decided to start off this series with an outfit inspiration from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

TOBERMORY CAMPING

TOBERMORY CAMPING

Oh Tobermory, I never get sick of that place! I’ve been thinking about it more recently due to the recent cold, wintery weather we’ve been having here. *Sigh* So I decided to create a post looking back at the warm, summer days at Tobermory.

If you’ve never heard of Tobermory, it’s a small town located around four hours north of Toronto, near Georgian Bay. I suggest the best way to make the most of your stay is to go camping. There’s nothing like being surrounded by your closest friends in the wilderness (ok, wilderness might be exaggerating it a little) and just having a good time.

With no electricity and very poor cell phone signal ( … trust me, it gets better), you can actually talk with your friends or family without any distractions from the ever-present social media posts. Plus, it’s good for keeping active and having fun because there’s so many trails to hike and chores to do around the campsite. Yes, I just said chores are fun, at least only when it comes to camping.

STRIPED OXFORD SHIRT

STRIPED OXFORD SHIRT

As a broke student in need of new clothes, I recently went on a thrift store run a couple of weeks ago. I went to my local Value Village and it too me a while to find something I really liked.

I’m always confused and slightly envious when my friends show me the awesome and stylish clothes they find at thrift stores while I struggle to find anything I like. But luckily on this trip, I actually found a piece that I really liked. In the end I only ended up buying two items. A Harry Potter book (couldn’t resist!) and a striped Hollister oxford shirt.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR A DAY AT PARIS LAS VEGAS

WHAT TO WEAR FOR A DAY AT PARIS LAS VEGAS

Las Vegas. The ultimate destination for fun, games and relaxing with friends. Once there, there’s so many options for places to eat, shows to see and casinos to peruse.

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it on my blog before, but I have this weird obsession with France, particularly Paris. I travelled there seven years ago and I wasn’t obsessed with it as I am now. I just love everything about it, from the architecture, the food, and of course the fashion!

There’s books and blog posts focused on achieving that French girl fashion look, that sense of “je n’ai se quoi.” From what I’ve read and seen, French style is more simple and classic. They focus on quality, classic pieces that will never go out of style. They wear mostly neutral colors and very little make-up. Now that’s my style! I think I identify with Parisian style so much because it’s exactly how I dress. My closet is filled with neutrals, I always go for classic clothing and keep everything simple and minimal.

HOW TO WEAR BOHO TOPS

HOW TO WEAR BOHO TOPS

Bohemian style has been dominating the fashion world for the past couple of years, all thanks to the popularity of music festivals such as Coachella. This season (spring/summer), one of the biggest trends is ’70s fashion, and with that comes all things bohemian.

I personally love bohemian fashion –  I like the lace and the flowiness of the clothes. I also like the earthy aspect of boho fashion. I’m actually thinking of having a bohemian theme for my wedding (if I even get married, that is…)

DISCOVERING YOUR PERSONAL STYLE

DISCOVERING YOUR PERSONAL STYLE

Discovering your personal style can be a difficult process. It involves having a deep understanding of your sense of self (that’s my Psych major talking right there..), a great confidence in your own skin and knowing what works and doesn’t work for your body type.

Many people say that fashion is an extension of yourself, an outlet through which you can express your creativity and personality. I agree. We are drawn to specific garments, styles and colours because we are attracted to, and feel comfortable, in them. We choose them because they fit our tastes, likes and visual aesthetic.

After following fashion blogs for years, I quickly noticed how they had their own unique style. Then I started thinking about myself and how I didn’t think I had a personal style.
